Introducing the NEW…
Grazing Land Stewardship Manual for Hawaii Landowners
Are you tired of wondering where to go for information on grazing management in Hawaii?
What about forage kind and quality data?
How about setting proper stocking rates for each pasture?
Are you wondering if your pasture conditions are healthy or not?
What kind of grazing systems work best in Hawaii?
The list of questions goes on and on….
Many ranchers have asked us (Hawaii GLCI) to compile the most important information on grazing land management for Hawaii. Well, we heard you!
The good news is that we’ve completed the Grazing Land Stewardship Manual for Hawaii Landowners and it’s available for purchase.
Loretta (Lori) Metz, former NRCS State Grazing Land Management Specialist for the Pacific Islands Area, and Dan Caudle, retired NRCS Regional Rangeland Management Specialist (Central Region of the U. S.) teamed up to author the Manual. Many Hawaii graziers contributed comments, sharing their tips and tricks with you. Texas A&M AgriLife Graphics Designer, Lori Colvin, compiled and designed the manual for us. Special thanks goes to NRCS-Pacific Islands Area, and Kamehameha Schools for funding the project.
Look for the Manual at the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council (HCC) Annual Convention (November 2-3, 2012), at the HCC products table, with a display copy at the Hawaii GLCI vendor booth. The Hawaii Sheep and Goat Association will also offer copies for sale at their annual meeting on November 9-10.
Members of HCC or Hawaii Sheep and Goat Association (HSGA) can purchase the Manual for $30. Non-members can purchase it for $40. If you’d like it mailed to you, we’ll add on the cost of shipping (probably $6.00 per book).
To order your copy, send us a request via our “Contact Us” form (click here). We’ll collect payment and mail it to you right away. Or you can directly contact the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council at (808)885-5599 to order by phone. To avoid shipping costs, you can pick yours up at the Hawaii Cattle Producers Coop Office, on Mana Road in Waimea, right across from Veterinary Associates.
