Pasture Walk on March 17 — Hands-On Beef Quality and Yield Grading

by HI-GLC on February 27, 2012

Triple D Ranch, Pasture Walk Oct 2011Join us at the Hawaii Beef Producers slaughterhouse in Paauilo (Big Island, Hamakua Coast) for our second Pasture Walk.

This is a great follow-up to the October Pasture Walk we had at Triple D Ranch. This Pasture Walk features Jill Andrade-Mattos. Jill will show us how to quality and yield grade six grass-fed cattle from Triple D. You’ll get hands-on experience with carcass grading. Jill will share with us what local markets are looking for in quality grass-fed beef. We’ll also discuss humane animal handling methods and proper grazing management.

When: Saturday, March 17, 9:00am until 11:30pm (or whenever you’ve had enough)

Where: Hawaii Beef Producers slaughterhouse in Paauilo.

What to Wear and Bring: You must wear closed-toed shoes. No slippers. No need to bring anything, unless you think you’ll get hungry or thirsty. Jill will provide disposable aprons and hairnets, and your shoes will be dipped.

Directions: The slaughterhouse is located on the Hamakua Coast, makai of Paauilo town. Take the makai road that’s just outside of Paauilo on the Honokaa side. It’s the same road to get to Gene Aguir’s feedlot. Follow it to the bottom and turn left. Follow it to the slaughterhouse on the makai side. Park anywhere in the parking lot.
